Restaurant POS in the UAE
How to choose a restaurant POS in the UAE.
Seven questions to ask any vendor, the integrations that decide your Friday nights, and an honest read on Geidea vs Foodics. Updated September 2026.

First, decide what you are
A single café and a twenty-outlet group need different things, and most bad POS decisions come from buying for the business you hope to be in three years instead of the one you run on Tuesday. Answer four questions before you take a demo: how many outlets in the next twelve months; what share of revenue is delivery; whether you take payments at the table, the counter, a kiosk or all three; and who on your team will actually administer the thing.
If delivery is more than a third of revenue, integrations come first. If you are table service, payments at the table come first. If you are opening a second outlet, central menu and reporting come first. Everything else is a feature list.
Seven questions to ask any vendor
- 01
Does the terminal talk to the till without a middleman?
When payments and POS are separate products, every bill is typed twice and every mismatch is a Friday-night argument. Ask to see a payment start on the POS screen and settle on the terminal, in a live outlet.
- 02
What happens when the internet drops?
It will. Orders must keep printing and cards must keep tapping, then sync. Ask how many hours of offline trading the system supports and what is lost if the device dies before it reconnects.
- 03
Which delivery apps are native integrations, and which are a third-party bridge?
Talabat, Deliveroo, Careem and Noon are your top line in Dubai. A bridge adds a second vendor, a second fee, and a second support line. Get the list in writing.
- 04
Can it produce an FTA-compliant tax invoice on day one?
VAT reporting should be a button, not a spreadsheet. Ask for a real invoice from an existing customer, not a demo.
- 05
Where does the kitchen screen come from?
A kitchen display that is part of the same system means an order edited at the table changes on the pass. A separate KDS means it might not.
- 06
Who answers the phone at 11pm on a Thursday?
Ask for the support hours in writing and the name of the person who will own your account. Then call the support line before you sign.
- 07
What does leaving cost?
Export of your menu, customers and sales history, and the hardware you own versus rent. The answer tells you how confident the vendor is that you will stay.
Geidea vs Foodics, honestly
They start from opposite ends. Geidea is a licensed payment provider that built a POS so the two would be one system. Foodics is a restaurant management platform that started with the POS and added the rest. Both are serious, both are everywhere in the Gulf, and the right answer depends on where your pain is.
| If your pain is | Lean towards | Because |
|---|---|---|
| Card payments that do not match the till, slow settlement, two support lines | Payments-first (Geidea) | The terminal and the POS are one product and one account manager. |
| Deep back-of-house: inventory, recipes, purchasing, multi-brand menus | POS-first (Foodics and peers) | Restaurant-management depth is what they were built around. |
| You are not sure yet | Run the seven questions on both | The vendor that answers them in writing, in a live outlet, is the one to trust. |
Anything more specific than that, prices included, changes by outlet count and by quarter. I would rather answer for your exact case than publish a number that is wrong by the time you read it.
Questions
- What is the best POS system for a restaurant in the UAE?
- The one that talks to your payment terminal, your delivery apps and your kitchen without a middleman, and keeps taking orders when the internet drops. Feature lists matter less than integrations and offline behaviour.
- Does a UAE restaurant POS need to be VAT ready?
- Yes. It should produce FTA-compliant tax invoices and reports without manual work. Ask to see a real invoice from a live outlet, not a demo screen.
- Should POS and payments come from the same provider?
- Usually. When the terminal and the till are one system, bills settle to the right table, tips reconcile, and end-of-day closes in minutes. Two providers means two support lines when something breaks.
- Is this guide independent?
- No, and it says so. Ghassan leads POS sales at Geidea UAE. The criteria here apply to any vendor, including Geidea, and you should hold Geidea to them too.
